It was Star Wars Day or whatever. May The Fourth Be With You. Get it? Do you GET IT!? DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE CLEVER WORDPLAY??? Anyway, we played songs about space in honor of the world’s most popular franchise. Songs from Billy Thorpe, David Bowie, and Steve Miller Band. “Children of the Sun”, “A Space Oddity”, and “Space Cowboy” respectfully. Good times were had.

Cinco de Mayo took place. We played songs from bands with FIVE people in ’em. Since that’s what the “cinco” from “Cinco de Mayo” means. Yeah, sorry, we didn’t get very historic or educational on this segment. But we did play Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, and Fleetwood Mac.

It was Bob Seger’s 81st birthday. I’m sure you can imagine what we did for Blue Plate Special on such a momentous occasion. We played Bob Dylan songs! Okay, not really. Come on, now. We absolutely had to play some Bob Seger in honor of surviving another year around the sun. I won’t be telling you what songs we played, but I’ll say this – I love when we get to feature some music that hasn’t been heard in a while.

Another birthday! Bill Kreutzmann turned 80! He’s the co-founder, drummer, and only (still) living member of Grateful Dead. You could say he’s Grateful Living. Don’t say that, though. It sounds better in your head than out in the open. We played three songs from the Deadheads leaders, and I’m not telling you which ones. I don’t wanna!

Supertramp’s album Breakfast in America went platinum on May 9, 1976. You might be thinking, “Spencer, what gives? The date of this Blue Plate Special is May 8th! Surely you didn’t make a mistake!” Of course not! It was freaking Friday, and we don’t hold Blue Plate Special on the weekends. We had to discuss this monumental achievement sometime and saving it for the following Monday felt less special. So we rocked three songs from the album on Friday. Because I said so.
Alright, bye, thanks for reading. Come hang for the next Blue Plate Special at noon!
