Blue Plate Special: The Cars, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Sammy Hagar

Blue Plate Special

Join Spencer every weekday at 12PM, for a tribute to rock legends and their histories.

Monday 3-23

Ric Ocasek would have turned 82 today. He founded The Cars, so we honored him by rocking a few tunes.

Tuesday 3-24

Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s 3rd album Nuthin’ Fancy came out on this day all the way back in 1975. We played songs from the album: “Saturday Night Special”, “On the Hunt”, and “Whiskey Rock-a-Roller.”

Wednesday 3-25

Bob Seger‘s album Night Moves was certified Platinum by the RIAA 49 years ago on this day. It eventually went 6x Platinum. Obviously we had to rock some songs from the album: “Rock and Roll Never Forgets”, “Night Moves”, and “Come to Poppa.”

Thursday 3-26

Steven Tyler turned 78 today. Can you guess what we did to celebrate? Aerosmith. We played Aerosmith.

Friday 3-27

This one was fun because we got to play something a little more obscure.  March 27th marked the 40th anniversary of Sammy Hagar joining Van Halen for his first gig with the band. We played a Van Halen classic (sung by the Red Rocker himself, of course), Sammy’s most popular solo single, and a rare gem from the first band he was in – Montrose.
