Blue Plate Special: Springsteen, Ozzy, AC/DC & Steely Dan

Blue Plate Special

Here’s a week of 3-song special meals from Spenny, live on the airwaves every weekday at Noon, on KLBJ 93.7 FM Radio in Austin.

Tuesday, February 17th

2026 – Freakin’ Bruce Springsteen announced a North American tour! How was I NOT supposed to mention this during Blue Plate Special?

Obviously, I played some excellent Springsteen tracks. Info on when he’s coming to Austin can be found here.

Wednesday, February 18th

1982 – This week in 1982, Ozzy Osbourne was arrested in San Antonio, Texas. He was caught urinating on the cenotaph memorial for the Alamo’s defenders. Osbourne was wearing a dress when he was arrested because, according to testimony, his wife Sharon would frequently hide all of his clothes so he couldn’t leave the house. Ozzy was then banned from playing in San Antonio, Texas, although the ban was eventually lifted in ’92. When later interviewed about the incident, Oz said his next mission would be to pee on the White House lawn.

Thursday, February 19th

1975 – AC/DC released their debut album High Voltage earlier this week in 1975. It happened specifically on Tuesday, the 17th, but Bruce Springsteen frickin’ announced a tour earlier this week! Not sure if you heard about that.

Anyway, the band’s debut album was initially only released in their home territory of Australia (and surrounding countries like New Zealand). An international release happened a year later. Regardless of which territories their first album was released in, this clearly marked a significant moment in music history – the very first instance of this musical force from Down Under who helped shape the rock landscape of the 70s and 80s.

Friday, February 20th

1950 – Today we honored the birth of musician Walter Becker, co-founder of the jazz rock duo Steely Dan. There’s not much more I can say other than hell yeah the boss let me play Steely Dan on my show today. The band initially performed live shows until a couple years after their debut album when they decided to simply stick to studio recordings only. That’s something I can relate to completely. Why do you think I’m on a radio show? I can’t see you, and you can’t see me. It’s perfect. You frighten me.

Thanks for tuning in for the Blue Plate Special on93.7 KLBJ FM Austin
