Blue Plate Special: Beatles, Journey, Cinderella, Fleetwood Mac, Police & more

Blue Plate Special

Rock at Work with Spencer on KLBJ every weekday at Noon during the Blue Plate Special: A selection of three themed song-dishes for your ears to devour!

Monday, 3-30-26

Monday marked the 59th anniversary of The Beatles meeting at the Chelsea Manor Studios to shoot the cover for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. This album is considered one of the most influential in contemporary music history. To many historians it’s considered one of the first concept albums. It also highlighted the role producers play in the overall creation of song, and it influenced the art and design of vinyl record sleeves.

Tuesday, 3-31-26

Journey played at the Moody Center, so we played three songs of theirs to celebrate. And, although this technically isn’t Blue Plate Special, KLBJ-FM also played an hour of Journey’s music after the concert at 11PM for those who may have missed out, as well for those on their way home from the show.

Wednesday, 4-01-26

It was April Fool’s Day, so we played some music with the word “fool” in the title. Yeah, I know it’s a simple premise but sometimes keeping it easy is what’s best. Styx, Cinderella, and Led Zeppelin all featured on today’s Plate.

Back in 1977, Fleetwood Mac went to #1 on the US album charts with Rumours. It’s considered their most successful release, having sold over 45 million copies, and it’s considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Music historians consider it to be Fleetwood Mac’s magnum opus, or in English words – their masterpiece. The album was heavily influenced by the severe breakups and heavy drug use that many of the band members were suffering through, and it goes to show, in my opinion, that some of the best art is often born from struggle.

Friday, 4-05-26

So the theme for Blue Plate was: bands who quit then get back together. Kinda like resurrecting. Kinda like Jesus, maybe? Anyway, that was the idea for this Good Friday Blue Plate Special. We played Deep Purple, Police, and Guns N’ Roses.

Tune in for a new set of specials, and sometimes special announcements, every weekday at noon on 93.7 KLBJFM Austin.
