Blue Plate Special: Beatles, Eagles, Guns n’ Roses, The Doors, & Friday the 13th

Blue Plate Special

Monday, Feb 9th

The Beatles

1964 – The Beatles made their live debut on CBS-TV’s ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ where they performed five songs including their (at the time) current #1 “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” This was the first time in television history where 73 million viewers tuned in all at once, representing about ¾ of the total adult audience in the USA at the time. The show also received over 50,000 applications to sit in one of the 728 seats in the TV studio.

Tuesday, Feb 10th

Guns N’ Roses

1998 – Axl Rose was charged with disorderly conduct following a verbal altercation with a baggage handler at Arizona Airport. He was later released on bail. This came at a time where Rose was, essentially, hiding from the public while working on the band’s next album.

Wednesday, Feb 11th

The Eagles

2016 – Today marks the anniversary of the renaming of one of the streets in Royal Oak, Michigan to ‘Glenn Frey Drive.’ This particular street marks one of the boundaries of the middle school campus where the Eagles’ singer was alumni.

Thursday, Feb 12th

The Doors

1939 – Doors’ founding keyboardist Ray Manzarek was born. He would have been 87 today. Tomorrow (Fri 13th) also marks the 10 year anniversary of the surviving members of the band reuniting onstage at LA’s Fonda Theater to celebrate the day, marking the first time they had played together in 15 years.

Friday, Feb 13th

Tom Petty, Social Distortion, Emerson Lake & Palmer

2026 – It’s Friday the 13th! Often known as a day of bad luck, we decided to take charge of the day by playing a few songs about good luck.
