Meet John. For what seems like decades, John has been calling into the radio station to chat. He would talk with Nigel, Jeff Carol, Charlie Hodge, B-DOE and who knows else. When I took over evenings in 2011, John would call almost every night.
Sometimes he would tell long, crazy stories. Sometimes he would tell jokes. Often he just wanted to talk.
I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with John (though on a busy night I might get annoyed when I glanced over at the phone and saw that light blinking because I knew who it was and who knows how long he wanted talk this time).
The phone calls went on throughout the years and he never seemed to lose his energy or enthusiasm. I would worry when I went awhile without hearing from him but John always seemed to reappear months later.
Well, I haven’t heard from him in a while and last week I found out why. John’s brother contacted the station and let me know John had passed.
I’m going to miss seeing that light blinking, picking up the phone, and hearing John on the other end.
