Monday 5/11:
For 5-11 we took a different approach that aligns closely with the theme “Whatever Spencer F*****g Feels Like.” By that I mean we didn’t feature any musical anniversaries or milestones. Instead, we played bands that featured members who were five foot eleven inches tall. Yeah. 5’11”. GET IT!? Turns out Van Halen, Alice in Chains, and Pink Floyd all have members that are that height.
Tuesday 5/12:
It was 512 Day! Well, we made that up, but since the date matched our area code here in Austin (Monday was already a f*** off kinda day), we did something a bit more thematic. We played songs from Texas artists! Arc Angels, Soulhat, and, of course, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Wednesday 5/13:
Donald “Duck” Dunn passed away 14 years ago, so we celebrated his death anniversary with famous songs he performed. Dunn was a well renowned bassist in the studio musician and rock music circles due to his talent and prolific nature. Though we, the mainstream public, may have never recognized him, we most certainly have heard him perform on a number of popular classic rock songs. He played with the likes of Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and many, many more. He also joined the group Booker T. and the M.G.’s and was the bassist for sketch comedy band The Blues Brothers, led by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd of Saturday Night Live fame.
Thursday 5/14:
The 50th anniversary of Steve Miller Band’s album Fly Like An Eagle. I screwed up and aired this a day early, as the actual release date for the album was on May 15, 1976. Oh well. We featured “Fly Like an Eagle”, ” Mercury Blues”, and “Rock’n Me.”
Friday 5/15:
Friday was 5-15. Much like Monday and Tuesday of this week, those numbers became our focus for the day. “5:15” is a song from The Who’s album Quadrophenia. And since we couldn’t think of any other songs with specific times like that in ’em, we decided to just go with songs about time, to some degree.
