The Flatwater Foundation has been helping individuals diagnosed with cancer, and their families, gain “access to mental health therapy and family support” at NO cost for almost a decade. They say a cancer diagnoses can create waves in someone’s life, and the nonprofit is there to help them find the ‘flatwater’ again. To date, the Flatwater Foundation has helped pay for well over 11,000 sessions of therapy. On June 25th, almost TWO HUNDRED paddle boarders will paddle 21 miles in the annual Tyler’s Dam That Cancer to raise a boatload of cash for the FF. A huge party at Hula Hut will follow the paddle and all are encouraged to attend to help support the Flatwater Foundation.

Mark Garza, founder of the Flatwater Foundation, started this event as a one off stunt to raise awareness for the lack of access to mental health therapy for families diagnosed with cancer. He searched for organizations to help individuals and families when his Dad was diagnosed with stage IV cancer and realized there was a void in the system, so he filled it. Tyler’s Dam That Cancer is now an annual event that raises HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars to directly benefit families going through a cancer diagnoses. Chelsea Hardee, Director of Development for the Flatwater Foundation and one of the paddlers, stopped by Local Insights to help spread the word about this heroic event to help benefit individuals and families going through cancer diagnoses. Spread the word, and make plans to party with a purpose, June 25th at the Hula Hut to help benefit FF! #DAMTHATCANCER
