Find out about lane closures and safety tips for the roads

Great news, Austin! The weather is warming up and summer will be here before you know it. This means an increase in work zones on our roadways. The City of Austin will begin many road projects that are seasonal like re-tarring streets, so be on the lookout for lane closures on streets you might usually travel. Do you abide by the work zone signs and speed limit changes? You should, because City of Austin employees' lives depend on it.

Did you know there were over 650 work zone crashes last year? Mike Bewley, from the City of Austin Public Works Department, stopped by Local Insights to encourage drivers to pay attention to work zone signs and warn of the dangers of not following the law. He also shares some great tips to stay calm and find out where road closures will be happening. Spread the word about National Work Zone Awareness Week and remember to pay extra attention to work zones and the City of Austin employees' working hard on our roads.

Work Zones are serious business, so be aware of your surrounding when driving and pay attention to work zone signs and workers.

Check in at the City of Austin's Public Works Department page to see if there will be any lane closures that might affect your travel.
