ESPN puts the X in the ATX

So it's official!  All of our tweeting, likes on Facebook, blogging, rallying, begging has convinced ESPN to bring the Summer X games to Austin 2014-2017!

According to the Austin American Statesman's Dave Doolittle and John Maher, "Austin will host the Summer X Games from 2014 to 2017, ESPN officials announced Wednesday. But the games won’t be in summer. Next year, Circuit of the Americas will stage the Games from May 15-18 in an effort to dodge Austin’s searing summer heat. ESPN picked Austin over the other three finalists — Chicago, Detroit and Charlotte. “I think it was close. It was very close,” circuit chairman Bobby Epstein told the American-Statesman. “I’m very proud of the thousands of people who showed up when the committee was here. That had a huge impact … It impressed me. That told me we were on the right track.” A June street party near the Capitol and a vigorous Facebook campaign were just part of Austin’s winning effort." Personally, it's just another global thumbprint to show what a great city Austin has become but will this create even more traffic congestion problems that we are not big enough to handle? Let me know and let's continue this conversation.
