The Onion Creek American Legion Post 326, a non-profit organization, will conduct our 25th annual Memorial Golf Tournament at the Onion Creek Club in Austin, TX on May 9, 2013. This is a charity golf event and includes a silent auction. This year we are planning a Flyover consisting of 4 T-6 WWII Trainers flown by the Centex Wing of the Commemorative Air Force as part of the Opening Ceremony which will provide an exciting start for our event.
We have had a successful tournament for a number of years, made possible by generous sponsor support. This has enabled our Post to continue contributing to a variety of veterans and community projects.
We strongly believe in supporting those who have given the most to our country - our service members and veterans by providing for their needs including education. For example, this past year the Post made donations in support of the following veterans projects: Fisher Houses (Brooke Army Medical Center and Ft. Hood Darnel Army Hospital) ($1,500), Wounded Warriors ($500), CTVHCS-Homeless Veterans ($500), Texas State Guard ($450), Disabled Veterans Assistance ($400), Ride 2 Recovery ($500), Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (Germany) ($500), and others ($1,588). We also strongly believe in supporting our local community by promoting Americanism in our youth. For example this past year the Post awarded eleven (11) scholarships to deserving HS seniors ($18,000) and ten (10) American Legion Boys/Girls State scholarships for HS juniors to attend a one-week program ("learn by doing" about local, county and state government in a university setting) ($2,950). High schools benefiting from these programs included Akins, Bowie Hays and Lehman.
