INAUGURAL CENTRAL TEXAS HEAD FOR THE CURE 5K AND FUNDRAISER MARCH 2013

The Head for the Cure Foundation (HFTC) expands its efforts with inaugural Head For The Cure 5K Fundraiser event in Central Texas to bring more attention, research funding and support to fight brain tumors. In a growing region with such an athletic, philanthropic and medical presence, HFTC hopes to garner support for this initiative in Central Texas and Head for the Cure.

WHAT: Head for the Cure - Central Texas 5K Run/Walk and Fundraiser

WHERE: Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas

WHEN: March 17, 2013 at 8 a.m.

REGISTER: Now open, at www.headforthecure.org. Participants can register, create/join a team, donate or sponsor the event.

WHY: Benefiting brain cancer research.

With approximately 200,000 people in the U.S. diagnosed with brain cancer each year and more than 120 different types, effective treatment is difficult and has survival rate of less than 5 years for approximately 70 percent of its victims.*

To date, HFTC has raised more than $1.8 million for the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC), a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors. The continued HFTC funding has allowed the BTTC to expand its network of participating institutions (from 16 to 23) to assist in the discovery of new and effective therapies for treatment of brain tumors.

ABOUT HFTC:

The HFTC Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding in the fight against brain cancer. Dedicated to the memory of Chris Anthony, HFTC started with one 5K event in 2003, and has now grown to 10 cities, expanding with an inaugural Central Texas event in 2013. These events not only raise money to fight brain cancer through research funding, but are also opportunities to honor those survivors, victims, caregivers, families and friends affected by this disease.

Head for the Cure activities support the Chris Anthony Brain Tumor Research Fund, which provides funding for the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and Legacy Brain Foundation located in Dallas.
