A collaboration between Texas Gas Service, Caritas of Austin and the Long Center will benefit members of the Austin community who are most in need this holiday season. All proceeds from Share The Warmth, a Texas Gas Service program that helps families in 33 Texas Counties get help with their home-heating costs, will benefit Caritas of Austin, a nonprofit organization that aims to help men, women and children in Travis County who are experiencing homelessness and poverty meet their needs and achieve self-sufficiency. On Nov. 21, Texas Gas Service, Caritas of Austin and the Long Center for the Performing Arts will host a Share The Warmth event on the Long Center City Terrace from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. leading up to that night’s performance of Cirque Dreams Holidaze.

The Share The Warmth event on Nov. 21 will be a fun chance for families to kick off their Thanksgiving celebrations with a day of merriment, games and the opportunity to share their thanks by giving back to the Austin community. Attendees can bring canned goods to donate to the Caritas of Austin Pantry. These canned goods will help Caritas provide take-home groceries for their clients this holiday season.

"We are honored to be partnered with Texas Gas Service and Caritas of Austin for Share The Warmth this holiday season," said Jamie Grant, CEO and executive director of the Long Center. "By teaming up with these two amazing forces, The Long Center, Austin's Creative Home, is able to help so many Texas families keep their own homes safe and warm this winter."

In addition to canned food donations which can be made on the day of the Share The Warmth event, monetary donations to Share The Warmth can be made through your monthly Texas Gas Service bill. This year you can also donate directly to Caritas of Austin by texting the keyword “WARMTH” to 20222. An automatic $10 tax-deductible donation will be made to Caritas of Austin and added to your phone bill.

“Share The Warmth is a wonderful opportunity for families in the Austin community to give the gift of warmth this Holiday Season. We are so thankful to be part of this collaboration,” said Jo Kathryn Quinn, executive director of Caritas of Austin. “With support from our friends at the Long Center and Texas Gas Service, Caritas will be able to help our clients meet their basic needs and help them achieve self-sufficiency.”

Today marks the kickoff of a ‘20 Days of Sharing’ challenge made by the ONEOK Foundation. ONEOK will match 15 percent of all donations made to Share The Warmth from today through the Nov, 25.
