Fall may be on it's way, but it's still summer here at KLBJ, and we're rounding out the Summer of Chicks by crowning Austin's primo poultry - the winner of our Winna Winna Chicken Challenge. You brought us your chicken choices, and we must admit, Austin is abundant with options. You came out in droves to support your picks, which included best Wild Card winner 24 Diner (for their stellar chicken and waffles) and El Pollo Regio (the overwhelming favorite for BBQ/Roasted).
We ate, you voted, and from 32 choices spanning four categories (Fried, BBQ/Roasted, Wings, and Wild Card) it all came down to two. The final countdown.
Lucy's Fried Chicken was the clear favorite for best Fried Chicken in town (not just a clever name!), but it was the fine folks at Green Mesquite who took the top prize. They'll now hold the honor of not only Austin's best chicken wings, but the best chicken in town, hands down.
We want to thank everyone involved for their votes and nominations, as well as all the restaurants for being good sports! To learn more about the two finalists, check out our videos below! The Dudley and Bob show's own Matt Bearden chats with the managers, gets to know the staff, and samples the award-winning poultry picks.
Check back in the fall for another food bracket! In the meantime, we're going to stock up on fat pants in anticipation. Happy eating!
