Top 15 KLBJ Break Up Songs

Breaking up sucks.

Thankfully, we as humans have created coping mechanisms to deal with the unfortunate monkey wrenches that are constantly being thrown into the cogs of the life machine. One such thing, for me at least, is listening to music.

While dropping in a few songs one evening, I decided to inquire with listeners about their favorite rock break-up songs. I filtered through that list and have come up with the best of all time.

What makes me qualified? Well, first off I am a radio DJ and music aficionado. Second, I've been through several break-ups in the last few years and a painful one as recent as last month. So take some time tonight and listen to a few of these and reminisce about that old love long forgotten.

Or go piss on their car door. Whatever helps you cope.

15) Love Stinks – J. Geils Band

The first stage of breaking up usually involves anger. And this song...

14) Love Hurts - Nazareth

Simple and cliche, yet powerful and true.

13) With or Without You - U2

He's waiting but she's not coming back. Either way, he wasn't happy: "I can't live, with or without you".

12) Somebody to Love – Queen

This upbeat tune is about someone who has so much love to give and justs wants to be loved back.

11) Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) - Mötley Crüe

The Crue showed their sensative side with this relationship ending ballad

10) Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - Journey

This song seems to painfully describe the disconnect and strange sensations couples feel after separating. One has moved on but the other reassures that their love will always be there.

9) Babe I’m Going to Leave You - Led Zeppelin

More of an "F You" this is a person who is fed up and leaving.

8) Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac

This song was written right as Fleetwood Mac were peaking and the relationships within the band were breaking up.

7) Here I Go Again On My Own – Whitesnake

I always imagine some dude being dumped because he wasn't good enough. He jumps into his T Top Firebird, turns up the radio and drives off. Although she eventually married her other boyfriend and has a happy life, she thinks about him all the time.  jumping into his

6) Piece of My Heart - Janis Joplin

She knows she is defeated and that he doesn't really care but just keeps giving it her all anyways.

4T) Bringing on the Heart Ache – Def Leppard

As with many relationships, the partner gets – or took – the best of the other person. This is Def Leppard’s best song and one of the top break-up songs ever. Damn the eighties were emotional.

4T) Def Leppard - Love Bites

"When you make love do you look in the mirror? Who do you think of? Does he look like me?"

3.5) Tom Petty - Learning To Fly

Maybe not about a break-up but definitely about change.

3) Black - Pearl Jam

The almost deafening numbness and frustrations of losing the greatest love of your life - the person who created that you -  and longing for them. The band chose not to release this song as a single because it was too personal and emotional.

2) Still Loving You - Scorpions

Time is all that is needed to win love back. This song's heart broken protagonist is not going to give up though the effort is all in vain. "You should give me a chance. This can't be the end. I'm still loving you."

1) November Rain - Guns n Roses

How could we leave the number one song off the original list! November Rain is a powerful and deep rock ballad of a long love ending - and both partners new it. I've actually used this one to cope with (and even foreshadow) impeding break-ups.

Other nominations:

Eventually - Tame Impala

Don’t Cry – Guns N Roses

This Love - Pantera

Don't Speak - No Doubt

Must have Been Love – Roxette

Mr. Brightside - The Killers

What it Takes - Aerosmith

Is She Really Going Out with Him - Joe Jackson
