From Keith Richards biting his nails to Mick Jagger doing a yoga pose before The Rolling Stones take the stage, 12 never-before-seen photos of the band, taken by Jim Marshall, have surfaced on the CNN Blog

Jim Marshall toured with The Stones during the summer of 1972, on duty for Life Magazine. The band had just released the infamous Exile on Main Street and were all reved up and ready to tour and party. Marshall, according to Richard, was just like another Rolling Stone, so you can only imagine the shots he was able to snap on tour -- talk about intimacy between photographer and the musicians.

Though it is said he was quiet and carried the “fly on the wall” mentality to capture rockin’ moments, Marshall was essentially “one with the camera.” These characteristics are what enabled the artist to do his job and do it well amidst the crazy rock star atmosphere. Marshall's assistant Amelia Davis told CNN that what made Marshall's shots unique was that he always demanded total access to the rock stars.

Perfectly timed along with the The Stones’ 50th anniversary, Marshall's estate is releasing some of photos in a new book "The Rolling Stones 1972" (Chronicle Books),  to be released August 15. According to the blog, there will also be a show at New York's Steven Kasher Gallery from July 5 to September 8, and an exhibit at EMP Museum in Seattle, opening on July 14.
