In a poll done recently by Men's Health Magazine, our fair city ranked #10 on the list of Porn Capitals of the US. Just how did the guys behind Men's Health arrive at their decision? "We peered through a statistical peephole to tabulate the following criteria: the number of DVDs purchased, rented, or streamed (AdultDVDEmpire.com); adult entertainment stores per city (StorErotica.net); rate of porn searches (Google Insights); and, for fans of soft-core, percentage of Cinemax-subscribing households (SimplyMap)." Topping the list? The hometown of Mickey Mouse, Orlando. In fact, says Men's Health: "Not only were Orlando folks the randiest residents, but Florida was also the most salacious state." The Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has passed away at the age of 47, after a long battle with cancer. Yauch was diagnosed in 2009, resulting in the cancellation of their tour, and the delay of their long-awaited new album Hot Sauce Committee. Yauch leaves behind his wife and daughter. By day three, sleep is minimal and endurance waning. But as the penultimate night of Austin’s first-ever comedy fest took shape, it was clear that fans weren’t losing their resolve any time soon. The Friday night lineup was so strong it was difficult to choose which comedian to catch – Jeffrey Ross’ roast of Austin packed The Paramount, while those looking for a more risqué set took in JB Smoove over at Mohawk. For those who love the funny ladies, the ND was the place to be, with sets from Mary Lynn Rajskub and Maria Bamford. That’s right, folks, day two of the Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival officially has a lid on it, but with stellar sets from a few NBC staples, we’re feeling pretty good about it. Hailed as one of the fest’s headliners, Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers kicked off the evening’s events, with an hour-plus set devoid of an opening act. Meyers, currently head writer on SNL, isn’t known for his standup, so this seemed to be one of those sets that was a bit of a mystery beforehand. At least that’s what appeared to be true as the first annual Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival kicked off last night. Despite a few first-year logistical quirks, the streets of downtown Austin were teaming with fans waiting to see Ansari, a man made famous by everything from his R. Kelly impression to his unforgettable utterance of “TREAT.YO.SELF” on NBC cult hit Parks and Recreation. And while the attendees most certainly overlap, the glaring difference between those at SXSW and Moontower is the noticeably less hipster attire. Think of a rock show, with less skinny jeans.
